This fun and colorful pocket-sized
field guide to warblers is an
excellent reference tool for both
beginners and experts. The book is
clearly organized and provides a lot
of really cool ways to learn all
about warblers. There are a ton of
fantastic photographs, maps showing
the ranges and migration routes of
each species, and special sections
with bonus tips on how to identify
warblers. The Stokes Field Guide
to Warblers even includes a detailed
tutorial on how to recognize the
most common warbler in North
America, the Yellow-rumped Warbler,
in all its many plumages. This
species is a great starting point
for anyone learning to appreciate
warblers.
The bulk of this slim, 175-page
volume is devoted to species
accounts for the 51 species of
warblers that can be found in the
United States and Canada. Each
account includes 2-4 photos, 2
separate maps that show spring
versus fall migration routes, a list
of details that help you identify
the bird, and notes on behavior and
habitat. It's just enough
information to help you feel
confident in your warbler
identification, but not so much
information that it's overwhelming.
What a great book for your next
adventure
