There are
actually three different
wizards for identifying
birds in Percevia, each is
optimized for what you
noticed most about the bird
you are looking for.
Unlike the
Percevia parametric search
engine where you can select
any field mark, the wizards
ask pre-selected questions
in a series of screens which
help narrow your search.
There is only one answer to
a question--that keeps the
wizard simple. For example,
the questions might be:
"In what
state did you see the bird?"
"What was the
shape of the bird?"
"What was the
primary color you noticed?”
Each step
along the way reduces the
number of potential matches
in the database. At the end
of the question series you
are presented with a list of
bird icons that represent
that match your answers.
At that point
you can click on any of the
bird icons to discover the
details of that bird--such
as a description, an
illustration and other
habits--and decide if that
was the bird you saw. If
not, you can use the back
button to go back to a
previous question and enter
a different answer.
Or at any
time you can enter the more
sophisticated Percevia
search engine by clicking on
one of the history links at
the top of the page.
The wizard
may be more attractive
because you do not have to
think so much about what
field mark to pick, we have
picked them for you. However
the wizards are less
flexible than the normal
search, so if you feel a bit
restricted try the normal
Percevia step by step search.
