A buddy and I got a couple good pics of a Northern Flicker today and the description displayed on this website is Partially Inaccurate, and very unhelpful in our search. If someone could please update the description to portray a more accurate account for what the bird looks like it might save someone else a massive migraine. You are so right.  Where the illustrator has red it should be black and they don't have any red on the nape .  Those were two most obvious errors

Hope they fix it before someone else goes crazy trying to ID a bird!

Thank you for your info and I hope it promts them to check that out.  I'm sorry you had a hard time finding your bird.  I have Yellow form of the Nothern Flicker and they are quite beautiful birds.  Thanks for the link! That is indeed a nice picture of the Yellow-shafted Flicker, our image is of a Red-shafted Flicker and the moustachial stripe is red and the face is gray on that variation.  We will add the Yellow-shafted variation to our list of drawings to add to the site.  I will go in and change the text to point out what variation we are showing.  Thanks.
