    Northern Mockingbird - Virus/Infection ?

I'm interested in knowing what would cause a Northern Mockingbird to have either 1) An infected eye or 2) Simply no eyes at all ? In the last week, I've come across two (2) different Northern Mockingbirds within two miles range of each other and both of them had no eyes. The entire eye area was black and looked dry, crusty, and simply "rotten" as if they caught a virus or had been infected. I did some research on it via Internet and came across some information, which I'll paste below, and perhaps this may be the same thing that has happened to these Northern Mockingbirds that I spotted. They were completely blind by the way because one of them I know for a fact kept bumping and flying into different objects.

"Mycoplasmosis is the most recently discovered disease in songbirds. It is being transmitted by direct contact, airborne droplets or dust. It causes conjunctivitis (infection of membranes of the eye). It has spread rapidly through the eastern population of house finches" (http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:J_upIH4V9voJ:rip.physics.unk.edu/nou/newsletter/199803.html+northern+mockingbird%2Beye+infection&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=10&gl=us).

Hi Sasha!  I've missed you and your beautiful pictures.

This diseased mockingbird is just awful.  THankfully I haven't seen many in my neck of the woods.  Just that little brown-headed cowbird with the deformed legs.

I've noticed this year that we have had several House/Purple Finches with the same problem. I can get so close to them that they have no idea I am one foot away. I have seen some in both eyes and others in one eye.  I have also seen other birds(mainly sparrows) attack them as if they know they are sick.
