Central NJ, This bird has been coming to my back yard since mid April,
it's about 11 inches long, (larger than a CatBird) it has long brown legs, a head like a
Savannah Sparrow and chest markings like a Starling. I can't figure
out if it's a thrush or a hybrid mix? Would appreciate help.

Thanks, everyone for your replies. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you!
Also, I don't know how to reply & quote everyone in my email, so I just hit ''reply'' to the last post! Thanks everyone!

Hi there. This is my first posts, but I had to join because I was mesmerized by a bird that visited my backyard yesterday. I could not get a photo as my camera's zoom was not strong enough, but I got a clear view of it in my binoculars and will describe it as best I can. This vulture got it's ''red-eye'' look from my camera flash. It makes it look kind of spooky! View at the Original size to see more detail.

Here's a picture of a female, Red-Breasted Merganser. She's facing the wind in this one, so her crest 'hair' is OK.

Friday, March 21 – my boyfriend and I took a spontaneous trip to Barnegat Light in the hopes of seeing (and photographing) the beautiful Harlequin Duck. No luck on the duck, but I did get to see some new birds!!! I saw my first oyster catchers! They repeatedly flew near the lighthouse & walking path, and landed on the beach across the ...

This is just a seagull I saw at Barnegat Light. I could use some help IDing it, as I don't really know a whole lot about seagulls and my books are still MIA!
Update: I've changed this from an unidentified gull to a Herring Gull. Thanks TheGrine!

I just got back from barnegat lighthouse, NJ and am exhausted. I'll blog about it soon, but I couldn't help but try to ID this special water bird I saw -with no success! I've never seen a beak like this before on this kind of bird... (though I'm not experienced), it's so thick and dagger-like! Kind of like a heron's beak on a ...

Here's a picture of a female cowbird in our yard. I think they're quite pretty. This pic was taken in May of 07.
